El Yaque has so much to offer in
the Kite arena. The
beginners
will be happy to know that the standard
day starts with a lighter wind.
This is the time that is reserved for
you! You have enough to worry about. I remember my first days kiting. Already a established surfer and windsurfer, I decided that it was time to kite. I went to Premium Kite and got started. Learning to fly and control the kite in shallow water with my Instructor next to me was easy. I quit listening to anything he said. I knew I could do it. I was ready to sail! After that I can remember just a couple of things...I had left the kite beach that the boat took me to miles up the coast for an easy downwind sail with the boat close by, it left to help another student. I can remember asking the instructors how would I know if I was over-powered. They said that " I would know". I forgot to tell them that after just over an hour of lessons I still had not really kited, or maybe more importantly that I was going downwind side ways. I just thought that was normal. About that time I was yanked out of the water about 100 ft. (ok maybe only 10 feet) a couple of times, it seemed like help was impossible... so I decided to head for the beach. Dropped the kite, brought it up and then leaned it over an I was off, side ways but downwind toward safety... the beach. This was GREAT! At that time I still did not know that maybe I was a Super Hero in a past life time. Somehow the kite got downwind of me and I was off, never thought of letting go. I did not say kiting, I said flying. Sometimes on my stomach sometimes on my back, flipping back and forth like Superman. Some how I was pulled out of the water into the boat that was not really that far away. I was done, I was not getting back into the water attached to that kite. Well a long story short... The Pros at Premium Kite got me back in.. and after 2 hours and 21 minutes I was kiting. Name with held ... but you know who you are!
